Want to open your favorite website or progressive web app (PWA) with just one tap, no browser, no typing? You can easily add a website shortcut or web app to your home screen, turning it into an app-like experience on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

This guide walks you step-by-step through how to do it using Safari or Chrome, plus explains the difference between a regular website shortcut and a web app.

Apple

On Apple devices, this feature works only in Safari, since iOS doesn’t currently allow other browsers to create home screen shortcuts or install PWAs.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Safari (use Safari, not Chrome or Firefox) 
  2. Browse to the exact page you want the icon to click to – such as your ordering site login page
  3. Tap the Share icon Choose “Add to Home Screen” Screen.
  4. If you want, you can set a specific name for the icon
  5. Safari will close automatically, and your new shortcut or web app icon will appear on your home screen.

Android

  1. Launch Google Chrome on your Android device.
  2. Browse to the exact page you want the icon to click to – such as your ordering site login page
  3. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) – It’s in the top-right corner of your screen.
  4. Select “Add to Home screen.”
  5. If you want, you can set a specific name for icon
